Grand entry of the Oktoberfest landlords and breweries. Beautifully decorated horse-drawn carriages move to the Oktoberfest grounds at Theresienwiese.
17 September, 12 noon:
The mayor of Munich taps the first beer barrel in the Schottenhamel tent, shouting "O'zapft is!". After that, the Oktoberfest is officially opened and beer is served in the tents.
18 September, 10 am:
Oktoberfest Costume and Riflemen's Parade takes place on the first sunday of the Oktoberfest. More than 10,000 people and musicians in traditional costumes parade through the city center of Munich.
18 September, 6 pm:
Munich's lesbian and gay community is celebrating in the Bräurosl tent.
20 September, 12 noon to 6 pm:
The first family day at the Oktoberfest with special discounts on meals and many rides.

Many Italians visit the Oktoberfest during the second weekend, that is also known as the "Italian weekend".
25 September, 11 am:
Open air concert on the steps of the statue of Bavaria. More than 400 musicians of all Oktoberfest bands play together in this remarkable concert.
26 September 6 pm:
Munich’s gay and lesbian community celebrates the “Rosa Wiesn” in the Fischer Vroni tent.
27 September, 12 noon - 6 pm:
The second family day with many discounts for children and adults.
3 October, 12 noon:
On the last sunday of the Oktoberfest a firecracker shooting takes place on the steps of the statue of Bavaria.
3 October, 11:30 pm:
The Oktoberfest ends.
